Yesterday, the 15 selected cellists arrived at the Liszt Academy, whose applications the jury found to be the best among 135 candidates. After registration, the order of performance was drawn, and this afternoon the competition begins.
On Monday and Tuesday, the contestants will perform their programs in two concerts each day. In the Preliminary Round, every cellist plays one sonata with piano accompaniment (by Beethoven or Brahms) and one 20th-century work for solo cello. The detailed program and the exact schedule of the contestants are available here.
The rounds are open to the public and can be followed both in person and online. What’s more, anyone who listens to all the contestants can feel like a jury member! Therefore, we offer a 30% discount when purchasing three concert tickets, and 40% off when buying four.
